In the Lounge Chair Episode 7

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Atlanta Hawks- B Rd 1. Pick 3 F/C Al Horford- Florida Rd 1. Pick 11 PG Acie Law IV- Texas A&M

The Hawks could have made out a ton better. They passed up on another franchise PG in Mike Conely Jr. I think if they would have selected Conely and a player like Florida St’s Al Thornton they would have been far better off. The Hawks have a glaring hole at PG and they passed up on another franchise guy. They got two good players but I think need wise and overall talent wise at those picks there were better players they should have taken

Boston Celtics- A- Trade For SG Ray Allen Rd 2. Pick 32 G Gabe Pruitt- Southern Cal Rd 2. Pick 35 F/C Glen “Big Baby” Davis- LSU

I am in the minority in liking the Celtics trade with Seattle. Look at what Paul Peirce did with a marginal 3 pt shooter in Antoine Walker. Now he has the best pure shooter in the NBA and one of the best rising big guys in Al Jefferson. Ray Allen will be great in Boston allowing Peirce to be the slasher he was when Walker was there and Jefferson will provide great rebounding for them too. I love their two second round picks as well. Pruitt should be a great talent. He is an athletic guard who can play the point or the 2 guard. Big Baby should be a good compliment to Jefferson up front providing good rebounding and solid defense. Boston should be a playoff team next year

Charlotte Bobcats- C- Traded Brandon Wright to GS for Jason Richardson Rd 1. Pick 22 F Jared Dudley- Boston College Rd 2. Pick 36 PF Jermareo Davidson- Alabama

MJ maybe the greatest player ever, but he maybe the worst GM ever. That Kwame Brown pick he will never live down and now trading one of the top 5 prospects in this draft for an inconsistant shooter. Richardson came off a good year but he isn’t the answer for Charlotte. Wright would have made a bigger difference for them. Then they pick Jared Dudley who I don’t think will get much better. He was a great college talent but he doesn’t have the speed or quickness for the NBA game. I would have like to seen Wisconsin F Alando Tucker go here.

Chicago Bulls- B Rd 1. Pick 9 PF Joakim Noah- Florida Rd 2. Pick 49 C Aaron Gray- Pittsburgh Rd 2. Pick 51 G JamesOn Curry- Oklahoma St

I hate the Joakim Noah pick. It was so easy to pass on Noah here a caveman could do it. They already have two low post players who can’t score in Ben Wallace and Tyrus Thomas. Thomas is young and maybe the best athlete in the NBA, so he will eventually learn to score. But to bring Noah off the bench hurts the Bulls. Again I would have loved to see Florida St PF Al Thornton picked at 9. But their second round picks were phenomenal. Gray should be a great backup center in the beginning of his career and eventually turn in to a quality starting center. JamesOn Curry will be another great asset off the Bulls bench. he is inconsistant but he is a good player. If the Bulls fail to make the conference finals next year, the year is a bust they are the best team in the east right now and should be representing the east in the finals.

Cleveland Cavaliers- Incomplete No picks

There was rumors they could have had Phoenix’s 24th pick by offering cash like Portland did. They could have got some sort of talent there. But they didn’t. So an incomplete

Dallas Mavericks- B+ Rd 2. Pick 34 PF Nick Fazekas- Nevada Rd 2. Pick 44 F Reyshawn Terry- North Carolina Rd 2. Pick 50 G Renaldas Seibutis- Lithuaina

Having no first round picks Dallas had a great draft. They got two players who can immediately come off their bench and make an impact. Fazekas is a good low post scoring PF. He should give Dirk and Dampeir good rests and not a drop off in production. I also love the pick of Reyshawn Terry. He could be the Josh Howard of this draft. And Seibutis is a Manu Ginobli type player who should help the mavs two or three years down the road

Denver Nuggets- A Traded for Allen Iverson during season

The Nuggets traded for Iverson during the year. They got a player 100 times better than they would have thats an A draft. The Nuggets now have two great scorers and a great low post presence in Marcus Camby they will make the playoffs again next year.

Detroit Pistons- A- Rd 1. Pick 15 G Rodney Stuckey- Eastern Washington Rd 1. Pick 27 G Arron Afflalo- UCLA Rd. 2 Pick 57 G Sammy Meija- Depaul

Well the pistons may lose Chauncey Billups to free agency this year, But they got a guy in Arron Afflala who could step in immediately and play point. Afflalo is not a natural PG but he has good handles and his size would create match up problems. Stuckey is like a Rip Hamilton clone. Kid can shoot and will thrive in the Pistons system. Meija probably wont make the roster. But a good draft by the pistons a very underrated draft for them.

Golden State Warriors- B+ Traded for Pick #8 PF Brandan Wright- North Carolina Rd 1. Pick 18 G Marco Belinelli- Italy Rd 2. Pick 46 F Stephane Lasme- Massachusetts

I love the trade from Brandan Wright and the Pick of Marco Belinelli fits Coach Don Nelson’s style. In Wright Golden State is getting an athletic quick player who can dominate at both ends of the floor. Belinelli is a natural leader on the floor and some say he might be one of the best international players ever.

Houston Rockets- B- Rd 1. Pick 26 G Aaron Brooks- Oregon Rd 2. Pick 54 G Brad Newley- Austrailia

I don’t like the pick of Brooks at 26, I think that is a strech for him. But he is a clutch shooter who can make the big shot. He is also a quick fast player. But his assist/turnover ratio is to high. Coming off the bench is should provide good scoring for Houston. Newley is a pure shooter who also gets a nice amount of defensive rebounds.

Indiana Pacers- D Rd 2. Pick 39 C Stanko Barac- Bosnia

The pacers had no first round picks, they hope Barac can be the next Rik Smits. With rumors that they are shopping Jermaine O’neal it looks like they are rebuilding in the wrong direction.

Los Angeles Clippers- B+ Rd 1. Pick 14 F Al Thornton- Florida St Rd 2. Pick 45 G Jared Jordan- Marist

I love the Clippers draft. They got a guy to compliment Brand in the frontcourt in Al Thornton. Thornton is a beast who can score and rebound while playing good defense, he is also a great athlete. Jordan should be a good backup PG who can push the ball and provide some scoring off the bench. With Livingston’s return for next year doubtful, Sam Cassel  and Jordan need to play good.

Los Angeles Lakers- B- Rd 1. Pick 18 G Javaris Crittenton- Georgia Tech Rd 2. Pick 40 G Yue Sun- China Rd 2. Pick 48 C Marc Gasol- Spain

I like the pick of Crittenton, he is a big upgrade from Smush Parker at PG. The other two picks are players that both need to develope. With Kobe wanting out this draft was bad because they didn’t pull a trigger on any trades. Now they may have to trade Kobe and not get as much as they would have.

Memphis Grizzles- B+ Rd 1. Pick 4 G Mike Conely Jr- Ohio St

I love this pick. But memphis is still a bad team Conely will make them better but they haven’t done anything to make them a playoff team again. But maybe staying healthy and solid PG play is all they need to make the playoffs again and Conley can do that. Now they just have to stay healthy at the other positions

Miami Heat- C+ Rd 1. Pick 21 G Daequan Cook- Ohio St

I like that they got Cook. He can be a Dwayne Wade player off the bench for the heat. He is young and needs to be developed, but Cook and Dorrell Wright are good players off the bench for the Heat.

Milwaukee Bucks- C- B+ Rd 1. Pick 6 F Yi Jianlian- China Rd 2. Pick 56 G Ramon Sessions- Nevada

Rumors are Jialian won’t report to camp. But that maybe good. Jianlian has bust written all over him. He is a 7 footer who hates playing inside. Teams like the Lakers and Celtics want him maybe Milwaukee can get future picks or some good players in return. With PG Moe Williams being a free agent the Bucks pick up Sessions out of Nevada. He fed Fazekas the ball and is unselfish. Will probably be a bench player for most of his career. Their Grade depends on what Jialian does

Minnesota Timerberwolves- C Rd 1. Pick 7 F Corey Brewer- Florida Rd 2. Pick 41 F/C Chris Richard- Florida

They get a bad grade for not moving KG and getting more picks. Getting Brewer helps and Richard should be a good player off the bench. But this team needs to move KG and rebuild around Brewer and G Randy Foye last years first round pick.

New Jersey Nets- B to a possible A Rd 1 Pick 17 C Sean Williams- Boston College

This maybe the biggest risk but the biggest reward player in the draft. If they sign back Vince Carter, Williams can make a huge impact on this team. If Williams can be a the player they need him to be, New Jersey could make it to the finals again.

New Orleans Hornets- B+ Rd 1. Pick 13 F Julian Wright- Kansas Rd 2. Pick 43 G Adam Huluska- Iowa

I love the Hornets taking Wright. He maybe not the strongest shooter but he does everything else great. He is a great defender, rebounder and is a hustle machine. They are a young team and most likely won’t make the playoffs. But they are building to a bright future.

New York Knicks- C- Rd 1. Pick 23 F Wilson Chandler- DePaul

Yes they traded for Zach Randolph but I think it was a bad trade. Now they basically have two Eddie Curry’s in the front court, All offense no defense. How are they going to stop anyone up front? And the draft pick is horrendous. So much more talent at this position than they took

Orlando Magic- D Rd 2. Pick 60 F Milovan Rakovic- Serbia

They may lose Grant Hill to free agency and didn’t add any players through the draft. No wonder Billy Donovan wanted out so fast. They got another player that will need two or three years to develop over in europe.

Philadelphia 76ers B+ Rd 1. Pick 12 F Thaddeus Young- Georgia Tech Rd 1. Pick 20 C Jason Smith- Colorado St Rd 2. Pick 42 G Derrick Byars- Vanderbuilt Rd 2. Pick 55 F/C Herbert Hill- Providence

Again another team that should have selected Florida St’s Al Thornton, But Young is a good young player who should compliment Iguodala well. I hate trading Daequen Cook for Jason Smith. Smith virtually has no upside when Cook has all the upside in the world. I love the trade with Portland for Derrick Byars. He had a great NCAA tournament and will be a good scorer off the bench

Phoenix Suns- C+ Rd 1. Pick 29 F Alando Tucker- Wisconsin Rd 2. Pick 59 G DJ Strawberry- Maryland

I like the two players they got. Tucker is the all out guy they need off the bench and DJ Strawberry is a great defensive player who can learn from Raja Bell. What I don’t like is trading the 24th pick. When they could have had another young talent and maybe another peice to aquire KG

Portland Trail Blazers- A+ Rd 1. Pick 1 C Greg Oden- Ohio St Rd 1. Pick 24 G/F Rudy Fernandez- Spain Rd 1. Pick 30 G Petteri Koponen- Finland Rd 2. Pick 37 F Josh McRoberts- Duke Rd 2. Pick 52 G Taurean Green- Florida

Best draft by far. Greg Oden makes this team a playoff contender, then they trade Zach Randolph. And then they trade for the 24th pick and get Rudy Fernandez who will develope overseas next year but is a bright prospect. They also traded for the #30 pick and got Petteri Koponen is a good young PG who will also keep developing overseas. McRoberts should get decent playing time next year, but he can also learn behind the other bigs. And if Taurean Green makes the team he brings winning experience to the team.

Sacrmento Kings- D Rd 1. Pick 10 C Spencer Hawes- Washington

No wonder the Kings are bad look at their past three drafts. Hawes is another Brad Miller unathletic and can’t play defense.  Terrible draft for the kings. They are returning to their mid 90’s form. Where they were terrible

San Antonio Spurs- B Rd 1. Pick 28 F Tiago Splitter- Brazil Rd 2. Pick 33 F Marcus Williams- Arizona

Who knows with Splitter. The Spurs are the masters of picking foriegn players and I like the Marcus Williams pick. San Antonio had a good draf. It’s always hard to add to a Title team.

Seattle Supersonics- A Rd 1. Pick 2 F Kevin Durant- Texas Rd 1. Pick 5 F Jeff Green- Georgetown Rd 2. Pick 31 F Carl Landry- Purdue

Second Best Draft. The Sonics weren’t going anywhere with Ray Allen. So they traded him and got a great piece for the future in Jeff Green. Do I really need to talk about Kevin Durant. This kid become a Kobe type talent. Seattle is still a long way away from the post season but they will be fun to watch.

Toronto Raptors, C Rd 2. Pick 58 Giorgos Printezis- Greece

Toronto didn’t do much in the draft to help a team who won their first division title. But thats ok. They don’t have much room on that team. The Raptors have a lot of young talent. So they draft a guy they can develop.

Utah Jazz- B Rd 1. Pick 25 G Morris Almond- Rice Rd 2. Pick 38 C Kyrylo Fesenko- Ukraine

I love the pick of Morris Alomond. Utah needs a shooter and thats what they are getting. Almond can shoot and shoot well. He will help them immediately. Fesenko is a player they will keep overseas and develope.

Washington Wizards- B Rd 1. Pick 16 G/F Nick Young- Southern Cal Rd 2. Pick 47 F Dominic McGuire- Fresno St. Again I love the pick of Nick Young. He is an outstanding athletic player that Agent 007 can show how to use agressivness accordingly. Washington got a good player here, McGuire is a defensive stud who should make the team and get good minutes off the bench.
